The city of Topeka, Kansas state capital, is located in the northeast part of the state. Sitting downtown among office buildings, shops, and restaurants is the capitol building itself. Standing at the very top of the dome is the figure of a Kanza Indian named Ad Astra (to the stars); from the state motto, "Ad Astra per Aspera", Latin for "To the Stars through Difficulties." Visit the Kansas State Capitol Building gallery to see images from the capitol itself.
