]]>At first I thought the large bird on the tree limb was a huge red tail hawk. But a closer look of the photo once I was back home revealed a head shape much more eagle like. ]]>I am very impressed with how clean and well maintained the Kirwin reservoir area is. I didn't see any litter laying around, not even at the picnic areas. The only sign of man was this debris stuck in a tree at the edge of the water. I'm guessing it must have washed off a boat when the water levels were much higher. I had to leave it hanging there because there was no way I could reach it to carry it over to the trash cans, someone will have to get to it by boat. ]]>While I was walking up to this rocky beach at Kirwin I kept hearing a sound in the brush right behind me. Every time I would look over my shoulder the sound would stop and nothing was moving. I worried there was a bobcat or coyote following me, or even a snake! Finally I saw a little head pop out of the weeds and there was a big ring-neck pheasant standing just about 2 feet away. By the time I turned the camera his direction he took off. I must have gotten to near a nest or something and he was protecting it.

]]>I saw several types of butterflies while at Kirwin, this black swallowtail held still long enough for a quick shot. Next time I'll have to take my long lens with the macro setting!

]]>There seems to be a large number of American White Pelicans at the reservoir in early spring. They are very camera shy but I did capture this one in mid flight. They are very graceful for such large awkward looking birds.
